HORNBLOWER ANNOUNCES 13TH ANNUAL PET DAY ON THE BAY BENEFIT

3 Festive, dog-friendly cruises on May 18 supports the Helen Woodward Animal Center

San Diego -  Saturday, May 18, Hornblower Cruises and Events’ popular Harbor Cruises will go to the dogs,(in a great way) benefiting orphaned, abused and needy animals in the process. Hornblower’s 13th annual “Pet Day on the Bay” is the one time each year that dogs cruise for free with their owners. A portion of event proceeds will support the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) in Rancho Santa Fe, and guests are also encouraged to contribute a gently used blanket or towel for animals at the center.
Three one-hour cruises are scheduled on May 18, setting off at
  • 9:30 a.m. (North Bay),
  • 11:15 a.m. (South Bay) and
  • 1:00 p.m. (North Bay).
Each departs from the Hornblower ticket booth at 1066 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, Calif., 92101, and boarding begins 15 minutes prior to departure.Headlining this year’s event will be experts from Petco’s dog training department, and they’ll share helpful tips and suggestions for dog owners. Petco is also sponsoring a special doggie treat bar that pampers pups throughout the cruise. Hornblower thanks Petco and the Port of San Diego for sponsoring the 2013 Pet Day on the Bay.

People pay just $24 per ticket ($22 for seniors and $12 for children ages 4-12) for the cruise, which this year features earlier departure times to better accommodate the schedules of owners and their furry first mates. All Coupons are accepted. All ages welcome.

Guests are also invited to board without dogs, or to stop by the ticket booth between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to drop off blankets, towels or financial donations for HWAC.

Pet Day on San Diego Bay promises a tail-wagging good time for participants and pups.

“Since the Helen Woodward Animal Center was founded 40 years ago, we have served more than 40,000 deserving animals,” says Jessica Gercke, HWAC PR manager and spokesperson. “We couldn’t make the same impact without support of Hornblower Cruises & Events and the guests who attend Pet Day on the Bay. Thanks to the financial support and donated goods that come from this event, we continue to comfort orphaned and injured animals on a daily basis.”

“Hornblower is proud to partner with Helen Woodward Animal Center and our Pet Day on the Bay sponsors,” adds Rebecca Milkey, Hornblower director of marketing. “This event is just one way we can support those doing important work in our community, providing not only resources for animals in need but also entertainment for our guests.”

Well-behaved dogs of all sizes and breeds are welcome for Hornblower’s Pet Day cruises. Each adult is invited to board with one dog, and canines must be kept on a leash throughout the cruise. The event is not appropriate for unsocial dogs, dogs that are unpredictable in crowds, or dogs that dislike strangers or other dogs. Pups behaving badly will be asked to leave and their owners will receive a coupon to return for a non-dog cruise.
